General Information

The Monolith serves as home to the many wizards who escaped the destruction Mystra's Grove. It also houses the widely respected Weave Knights, whom are the guardians of the Institution.

It is the stated goal of the Monolith to promote the responsible and disciplined use of magic, as per the doctrine of both Mystra and Azuth.

The Monolith also hosts lectures and classes on varying topics relating to magic and arcana, and strives to maintain excellence in both academia and research related endeavors. It is also home to a grand library, and houses a varying array of research facilities.

The Monolith is reachable by boat from Wiltun Keep and by portal from south Cordor.

The Council of Mystra's Monolith

The Council is comprised of three administrative offices. Namely, the seats of the Council of Mystra's Monolith are held by the Headmaster, the High Cleric, and the Captain of the Weave Knights. Each office operates independently, within oversight of the Council as a whole. Regular meetings of Council take place, where both members of the Monolith and the public are welcome to attend.

Current Members:
Ulrik Valis, Headmaster
Escine Valis, High Priestess of Mystra
Vaelmith Starshower, Captain of the Weave Knights

Founding Members:

History of the Council

Although relatively new, this Council has already demonstrated more conservative leanings, distinguishing it from the former administration of the Monolith and Mystra's Tower. In its first public meeting, the Council unanimously reaffirmed the former Council decree, banning "necromantic spells that create or augment the undead" and incorporating it into a larger set of laws.

Further, an explicit ban on the clergy of Bane, Shar, Lloth as well as their respective faithful was enacted, barring them from the halls of Mystra's Monolith. These aside, those affiliated with the Red Wizards as well as those calling themselves Crimson Arcanists also found themselves banned by Council decree. Once more, these bans were enacted by unanimous vote; the will and voice of the Council one.

However, change was inevitable. With the resignation of Provost Ruqayya, the clergy of the Monolith saw their influence on the ruling Council increase, with the High Cleric of Mystra being granted a seat, replacing the Provost's. The fact that the current High Priestess is also the wife of the Headmaster did not go unnoticed by some of the guild, and her being named to the Council did not have the unanimous support of the guild. Yet, at the Council meeting, all present voted in support of her confirmation to the Council, except the Headmaster who abstained, noting his confidence in her ability and integrity; and Escine herself, who voted 'nay' on behalf of those of the guild not present.

Thus the first High Cleric of Mystra was named to the Council, by a vote of two ayes, with no dissenting votes, and one abstaining. With the Council reformed once more, there is talk of expanding the research and academic venues of the Monolith, as well as the founding of a proper temple devoted to the gods of magic, Mystra and Azuth.

Laws of the Monolith

- Do not harm, physically or mentally any individual within the Monolith or it's sovereign territories, unless it is in self-defense or a permitted training exercise taking place on the roof.

- Be respectful of all: Guest, instructor, Weave Knight, or student alike. Do not insult or elsewise belittle others. If you have a personal conflict that you cannot resolve amongst yourselves, please seek arbitration through an appropriate Faculty member or a Senior officer of the Weave Knights as necessary.

The only exception to this, are Mage's staves. Weave Knights, Members of the Council and Faculty, and recognized individuals within the guild are permitted to bear arms or focii so long as it is done in an unobtrusive fashion (blades pointed down and away , for example). Any member of Council may grant this recognition, just as they may enact a Ban.

- Do not steal from the Monolith, or your fellow students. Any materials which are free to take will be clearly marked and designated. Should you require any resources that are not available through the merchants on site, please contact a member of the Faculty or place a notice on the notice boards.

- Undead are expressly forbidden from the Monolith, with the exception of Deathless.

- Do not use spells which create and augment undead, with the exception of appropriate demonstrations and theoretical training as needed to prepare oneself to counter or defend against them.
