Introduction
It is hard to say anything about the nature of rogues in general; they differ greatly in shape and outlook. A common point, however, are their flexibility, resourcefulness and versatility. They generally excel at getting to what other people try to hide or protect. They’re often seen picking locks hiding away treasures, convincing the guard they had nothing to do with it and finally cut a few purse strings while running from the guard.
Alignment
Rogues tend to lean towards a chaotic alignment as following stiff ideals often is unsuited for what the rogue does. There are plenty of exceptions to this as rogues are such a diverse group. E.g. a rogue could swear to follow the ideals of Tyr and use all his abilities to stop others from breaking the law.
Characteristics
Rogues are highly skilled and can even focus on a vide selection of different skills. While no match for a barbarian’s great axe in open combat, rogues have other ways of fighting. They know exactly where to hit to deal serious damage. This is what makes rogues feared in dark alleys where they striking from the shadows can land deadly sneak attacks on their victims. Rogues often have an extraordinary way of avoiding danger. The skilled rogues’ ability to escape otherwise mortal dangers are legendary. Another famed rogue ability is their way of “using” magic. Many rogues learn how to use many different magical items such as scrolls.
Religion
Many rogues typically pay homage to Mask as he is the lord of thieves. Rogues also often pray to Shar for keeping their secrets and shield them in the dark. Though a rogues’ patron deity also varies greatly as it depends for what purpose they use their skills. Those who deal in the more foul acts, as per say assassination, tend to favour the more dark deities like e.g. Cyric.
Background
Most rogues are self-taught during a life in the streets or might even be a part of thieves’ guild. The most famed guild of thieves is without doubt the Shadow Thieves. Many rogues that deal in stealing, burglaries etc. work together as it is valuable asset being more than one on a heist.
Races
The great flexibility rogues are characterised by is also one of the distinctive marks of humans. They easily fit the life on the edge the typical rogue lives. Halflings and Elves often find themselves well fitting to the requirements of a good rouge, their inborn dexterity being the most important. Dwarves and Gnomes are known to be expects of the more technical parts of a rogue career. (e.g. locks, traps) Half-orc rogues tend to be little more than thugs often lacking the finesse of the other races. The great versatility and the more covert aspects of a rogue career makes it very common among Drow.
Rogues on Amia
A rogue is on Amia, as on any other island filled with numerous dungeons, a good person to adventure with. The countless complicated locks and lethal traps can make the rogue a very popular addition to any adventuring party. Also many groups are always in the need of valuable spies or scouts to provide vital information. It is even suspected that many a rogue has ended in one of the crime syndicates of Amia. A common rumour among the various settlements on Amia is that somewhere on Amia a rogue can find an exclusive range of goods available to the skilled rogue only. The truth of the rumour is offcourse debateable.
