Wizard

Wizards are arcane spellcasters who depend on intensive study to create their magic. To wizards, magic is not a talent but a difficult, rewarding art. When they are prepared for battle, wizards can use their spells to devastating effect. When caught by surprise, they are vulnerable. The wizard's strength is her spells; everything else is secondary. She learns new spells as she experiments and grows in experience, and she can also learn them from other wizards. In addition, over time a wizard learns to manipulate her spells so they go farther, work better, or are improved in some other way. A wizard can call a familiar: a small, magical, animal companion that serves her. With a high Intelligence, wizards are capable of casting very high levels of spells.
A wizard/wizardess is a character who has an understanding of magic that goes beyond the wild and even uncontrolable powers of the sorcerer. They know of its true secrets and can unlock them by working with a spell or artifact for enough time. Most wizards take many years to learn their skills although some are more gifted then others. Players beware, hovever, a wizard is easy to metagame with their knowledge over magic and lore.
How a Wizard casts a spell A wizard, after a full night's rest, may memorize as many spells per day as she has spell slots for. Careful planning pays off, because once a preparation of a spell has been used, the spell is forgotten from memory (Not excluding multiple memorizations of the same spell in one day). Once memorized, a spell will not be forgotten until used or exchanged. A spell may contain verbal, somatic, and material components. Verbal components require the Caster be able to speak. Somatic components require that the caster have at least one hand free. Material components must be in hand at the time of casting. With word and gesture, the Wizard can then alter reality itself. The ultimate source of all magic is the Weave, a domain of the goddess of magic, Mystra.
Spell Components for Various Spells
Bigby's Forceful Hand - A leather or heavy cloth glove.
Bigby's Grasping Hand - A leather glove.
Darkness - A bit of bat fur and either a drop of pitch or a piece of coal.
Firebrand - A flask of alchemist's fire.
Greater Magic Weapon - Powdered lime and carbon.
Ice Dagger - A few drops of water made from melted ice.
Ice Storm - A pinch of dust and a few drops of water.
Polymorph - An empty cocoon.
Scintillating Sphere - A Glass Marble.
